We do not set these rules. PayPal does so if you can’t make the payment, then TURN OFF your VPN to complete the transaction and then turn it on again.

Exams

NO

If any Australian Standards are required to answer exam questions a relevant extract from the Australia Standards will be supplied as a LINK in the body of the question.

NO

AICIP paper A exam is a multi-choice method to select the most correct answer from the list of answers provided type assessment. The questions are general in nature, covering a broad range of the pressure equipment industry knowledge base.

It is designed for the candidate to display a level of general knowledge which is expected when dealing with a client.

NO

The exam locations in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne (20 candidates). Have all completed the AICIP paper A exam without requiring Australian Standards.

This clearly indicates that you have not prepared adequately for the exam. Candidates are expected to have a sufficient base level of general knowledge to answer multichoice questions.

A competent AICIP inspector should be capable of determining a “scrap paper calculation” of a carbon steel vessel’s minimum thickness in the field for safe operation

AS/NZS 3788 does NOT have a formula for thickness calculations.

That can be found in AS1210 clause 3.7.3. Please be aware that candidates sitting SIS have never been supplied AS1210.

About AICIP

AICIP is a non-profit making body called the Australian Institute for the Certification of Inspection Personnel. It has Australian Registered Body status with the Australian Securities Commission

AICIP started with design verifiers, welding fabrication inspectors and in-service inspectors. The types of equipment/plant that could be envisaged to be covered if there is demand, include, amongst others, pressure equipment, amusement devices, lifts and pipelines

AICIP agreed with Engineers Australia that it should conduct the examinations for design verifiers and list successful candidates on its NER-3 register.

Information can be obtained from:

Due to Government policies, industry has been required to self-regulate itself with regard to the manufacture, installation and operation of engineered plant. In particular, with respect to the National Standard for Plant, owners of such plant need to ensure that competent persons are used to inspect such plant in-service.

AICIP was therefore formed by industry organisations, with the support of the State Regulatory Authorities, to provide competency certification programs for inspection personnel.

These programs are voluntary but will give employers greater confidence in the competency of the personnel.

There is a Committee of Management with officer-bearers of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary/Public Officer and Treasurer, with all other members represented on the Committee of Management.  Staff perform the day-to-day secretarial and administrative functions on behalf of AICIP.

Relevant organisations are invited to apply for membership of AICIP.

Press releases and advertisements are published from time-to-time, welcoming such applications.

No, AICIP will not conduct training courses since it must ensure that there is no conflict of interest between a body conducting the examination and a body training personnel. ACIP will therefore only be responsible for the examination/certification programs. It has decided however to have a system of listing training bodies and courses being conducted.

Explaining Inspector Roles

AS/NZS 3788:2006 is the Australian and New Zealand Standard for “Pressure equipment – In-service inspection.” It outlines the requirements and guidelines for the in-service inspection of pressure equipment to ensure its continued safe operation. This standard also provides additional details regarding the responsibilities and scope of work for AICIP Senior Inspectors:

An In-Service Inspector in the AICIP certification program is an individual who has met the required qualifications and training to perform inspections on pressure equipment while it is in operation or during its service life.

These inspectors are qualified to conduct routine inspections, monitor equipment conditions, identify potential issues, and recommend appropriate maintenance or corrective actions as necessary.

The scope of work for an In-Service Inspector typically involves carrying out regular inspections and assessments to ensure the safety and integrity of pressure equipment during its operational phase.

A Senior In-Service Inspector is a higher-level certification within the AICIP program, which indicates a more advanced level of expertise, experience, and knowledge.

Senior In-Service Inspectors have demonstrated a deeper understanding of pressure equipment inspection, maintenance, and risk assessment principles.

They are qualified to perform more complex and detailed assessments involving design calculations, advanced inspection methods, and a broader range of inspection techniques beyond the basic elements expected of an In-Service Inspector.

Senior In-Service Inspectors may also take on supervisory roles, manage inspection programs, conduct risk assessments, and make critical decisions regarding pressure equipment safety and maintenance.

In summary, the main difference lies in the level of expertise and the scope of work. AICIP Senior In-Service Inspectors have a higher level of certification and are qualified to perform more complex and in-depth inspections compared to In-Service Inspectors, who focus on routine inspections and basic assessments during the operational life of pressure equipment.

AS/NZS 3788 recognizes that certain inspections may require more comprehensive and detailed assessments beyond what is expected of an in-service inspector.

AICIP Senior Inspectors are qualified and competent to carry out these more complex assessments, which may involve design calculations, advanced inspection methods, and a deeper understanding of the pressure equipment’s engineering principles.

According to the standard, these more detailed assessments should be carried out by a “competent person.” This refers to an individual who possesses the appropriate qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the specific task competently.

AICIP Senior Inspectors are considered competent persons and are entrusted with handling these complex assessments due to their higher level of certification and experience.

The standard recognizes that the role of a Senior Inspector goes beyond the basic elements expected from an in-service inspector.

While an in-service inspector focuses on routine inspections and basic assessments, a Senior Inspector is qualified to delve into more advanced and intricate inspections that may involve critical engineering evaluations.

Senior Inspectors are expected to have a broader understanding of various inspection methods and techniques, including non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, to assess the integrity of pressure equipment more comprehensively.

AICIP Senior Inspectors are often involved in conducting risk assessments related to pressure equipment and making critical decisions about the equipment’s continued safe operation, maintenance requirements, or the need for repairs or replacements.

Overall, AS/NZS 3788 recognizes the importance of experienced and qualified personnel like AICIP Senior Inspectors in performing more detailed and complex assessments, which require a deeper understanding of pressure equipment design, calculations, and advanced inspection methods. These inspectors play a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of pressure equipment in various industries.

No, AICIP will not conduct training courses since it must ensure that there is no conflict of interest between a body conducting the examination and a body training personnel. ACIP will therefore only be responsible for the examination/certification programs. It has decided however to have a system of listing training bodies and courses being conducted.
